Reviews

Very well structured unit with great lecturers, recommend going for the early times for Chris, however the lecturer for the kinetics part was kind of boring and got things wrong alot. For the labs make sure you aren't afraid to ask questions as all of the TA's are very understanding and knowledgeable, also use the Booklet when writing reports as there are hints. MAKE SURE YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND orbitals, especially if you are planning to do 1022

Relatively straightforward and interesting. Probably quite challenging if you haven’t done high school chemistry. Way too many contact hours every week.

Well structured unit

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2016

There are really good lecturers, and the labs were really easy to follow (if you have experience). If you already have a background in chemistry this unit would be fairly easy

CHRIS THOMPSON IS A LEGEND. PROTECT AT ALL COSTS. MADE 8AM THURSDAY LECTURES WORTH GOING TO.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2018

Pretty alright if you've done year 12 chem. Kellie is an awesome tutor and Helmie was a great lab TA. Pretty good unit overall :)

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2018

Lecturers are quite good and the labs are fun. If you have done year 12 Chem then most of the content you will have already learnt, it just gets built upon. Structuring of assessments is fair and achievable but need to do a lot of reading to ensure you are up to date and are able to pass. Only 30% hurdle on final exam so as long as you do alright on the labs and all of the quizzes you will be fine.

easy unit if you've done year 12 chem, very achievable

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2016

Having never done Chemistry before this unit was quite challenging but the lecturers (particularly Chris and Kellie) were very clear and engaging in their delivery. The labs were a lot of fun and really helped cement my understanding of the content even though I probably had to do more extra reading than others completing the unit. CHM1011 inspired me to challenge myself in CHM1022.

EASIEST UNIT EVER if you have prior knowledge from VCE otherwise some effort has to be put in; especially for the second half of the semester.
