Having delivered structured problem-solving instructions for over 100+ students at the UNSW Maths Drop-in Centre, I’ve seen firsthand where students stumble in MATH1231. This course builds significantly on 1A, especially in linear algebra and integration techniques.Key Strategies for an HD:Master Vector Spaces & Calculus: The shift to multivariable calculus and abstract vector spaces can be daunting. I focus on breaking these down into digestible steps during my tutoring sessions. * Maximize Quiz Marks: Consistent performance in the weekly quizzes is the safest way to build a buffer for the final exam. * Exam Workshops: I highly recommend attending or seeking targeted mentorship for final exam workshops to consolidate your knowledge and improve speed. If you're aiming for a full mark on your quizzes or need help strengthening your exam readiness, feel free to reach out for a session.

easier than 1131 and useful skills in algebra and calculus

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2018

The Algebra section is more abstract than the Calculus section, but once you understand the basic concepts it is quite straightforward. Nearly everything in the course is important for future years of study for maths/physics and engineering.

As long as u did great in MATH1131, MATH1B is fairly similar to 1A, according to study load and contents. Not a hard course but not easy either, catching up every tutes and past papers will help you a lot

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2017

Useful content and fairly examined.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2015

Useful skills learnt that provide the basis for important mathematical techniques learnt in later years.

For the whole semester I thought I was gonna fail this subject but I guess the past papers were quite useful. Maple TA is something you can totally ignore after you do the first 8 tutorials though. It's useless and doesn't teach you anything.

The more useful maths course of first year, especially for engineers.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2015

Similar to MATH1131, enjoyable course with many 'free and easy' marks. As long as you do the weekly questions and attend lectures, the course should be pretty easy to get by

Stay up to date with tutorial questions and always do past papers. The course was a follow on from MATH1131 and it's also relatively more content compared to MATH1131. It's not a hard course to do either and you can easily do very well in the finals.
