Reviews

This subject does a good job of giving an overall picture of the discipline of Economics, which can sometimes be forgotten when taking regular Economics subjects. It looks at the history of Economic thought, as well as the progression of the discipline of Economics. It will be a very enjoyable course for those who appreciate the discipline of Economics and who want to go further with their studies. Many students however noticeably do not enjoy this course as much as there is little hard theory that is studied, and a lot of what is taught is more from a philosophical standpoint rather than a quantitative approach. Gigi Foster does a great job of teaching this subject.

There really is no point to this course. It lightly covers everything that you learn in other subjects.

It was interesting to learn about the various economists who developed all the theories and models you learn in other Econ subjects. However, the rest of the course is a joke. Compulsory lectures which don't have much bearing upon the assessments. Useless tutorials where you learn absolutely nothing. And a 40-page handwritten journal, where you lose marks for not having perfectly neat handwriting.

ECON1401, Economic Analysis, just legit a waste of time. Still remember the macro2 lecturer (who had also taught Econ1401 the sem previously) complaining about low attendance for this joke of a course.

i dont think it's an easy essay. the lectures talks nothing about the assignment, neither does the tutorials. basically what i learn in lectures and tutorials are not even related to the written assignment.

Easy to get distinction or HD mark in if you put the effort in. I really enjoyed this course as it was more based on reading about various economists and their theories rather than just modelling / maths / supply and demand equations. Lots of essay writing though so be warned!

pretty easy course, no final exam. Fun tutorials and interesting topics.
