Reviews

Nice lecturer (Joe) and the content was very interesting. Not an easy breadth though, I lot of revision is required during exam period as there is quite a lot of content covered. Should probably keep up to date with readings to get a H1 and attempt tutorial questions before the actual tute.

Had an awesome lecturer in 2014, great foundation in Finance.

Finance 1 is a great subject.

Pretty useful subject. Concepts were easy to understand coming from a science background. Good subject to consider as breath! Lecturer was friendly and funny

Took this subject as a breadth and struggled all the way.

Jordan was a pretty good lecturer. The assignments were fairly easy although there would be one question that would be a little mind-boggling. Great introduction and overview to finance.

I was a tutor at the University of Melbourne for this subject. I strongly believe this subject is useful for people who wants to learn about markets and what finance is. This subject is extremely doable if you keep up with the class work. Topics include, debt market, equity market, IPO, how to calculate mortgage repayments, different types of risk. These finance knowledge will be useful to you in life!

Decent subject, content is run through at a fast pace. There is a lot to memorise/learn, however it is around a 50/50 split of theory and financial maths on the exam. Tutorials are quite dry and at times boring, but lectures know their stuff, and most of the time know how to teach it

A tremendously useful subject, especially the section on housing loans and foreign exchange. Unfortunately since it's an introductory course it skims over everything and it can be hard to tie the different parts of the course together. That being said, you still get a good grasp on most things, however for exam preparation there is disappointing lack of past exam papers to use as revision.
