Reviews

This was an interesting unit and I'm glad that I did it. The coordinator/lecturer was clearly interested in the subject and his students. Having said that, be prepared for some challenges that may or may not have been addressed since I did this unit. The lectures were way too long, often going for double the scheduled time. The allocated time was not sufficient to cover the content presented. It was often difficult to stay alert and concentrate for such a long time because I found the content new and difficult (even though it was interesting). I feel a more concise presentation would have made a huge difference to my learning, my enjoyment and my final mark. I found the final exam difficult, even though it was longer than most there was a lot of content to be communicated in what effectively became a very tight time frame for me. I like to process and reflect but that was not possible because I found that time was too short for the volume of information required in the answers.

There is a ton of economic theory covered. You will get very good at reading graphs. Lectures were extremely long. But the practical was extremely useful. Towards the end, there was a lot of revision online. Forum was very active. Relevant questions were asked and answered by the lecturer, which help enormously for the final exam. If you put the work in, then you will be rewarded with a very good mark. If you don't, then there is a good chance you will either fail or only just pass. Overall, I really loved the unit. The final exam was very long though. We needed to answer 4 essay type questions including graphs in three hours. And this is, of course, closed book. If you are starting this unit. Be prepared to work, and whatever you do, do not fall behind on anything because if you do its just about impossible to catch up.
