A charming unit. A lot of group work and concentrated math solving.

Very good introductory civil, mech, and structural materials unit. Civ content is taught very clearly and well. Materials is brief but very relevant to rest of course and will have a lot of overlap with most other engineering areas. Mechanical is great in starting to stretch out your pre-existing knowledge of mechanics with systematic techniques for solving gradually more complex problems. Very good unit. It is a good idea to review the mech lectures as they go over some very involved problems in a couple of them, which will hold you in good stead for the exam and later units.

This unit provides a great introduction to civil, mechanical and materials engineering, however at a relentless pace. Teamwork is essential and time spent outside of class to consolidate what has been said in the pracs and lectures is recommended. Overall, it was enjoyable because the lecturers were easy-going and motivated. Moreover, the assignments and projects were relevant and fun (such as building a spaghetti truss bridge and a trebuchet)

It's one of the best units in first year. It's quite fun and easy to get HD. The projects are the best part of the unit.
