Reviews
A lot of content, but very interesting! Make sure you keep up with the stats content and don't leave all your revision to the end of semester because it's a lot! There were a lot of opportunities to ask questions and my tutor was amazing; good feedback on the research report and helpful classes.

A lot of content to revise and go over for the final exam. The stats lecturer does make the course a lot easier and interesting!

Students are spoon-fed weekly in tutorial bits and pieces that finally emerge to become the critical details to write a research report. Talk about the blind leading the blind. I had no understanding of what the topic actually was, even though I was present and paying attention in all tutorials. A very painful unit. Worst experience to date (I studied a whole degree in science before doing this unit). Giving this unit one star is a stretch (zero stars from me).

Definitely enjoyed the unit. The convener was great, and my tutor really helped when we were writing up the assignment.

I think there was a new unit convenor for 2016, and she was quite organised. There was one major assignment a group presentation and an exam. There were also weekly statistics a quizzes which weren't too hard. The topics explored were interesting and most lectures were engaging. The unit is not too hard to pass if you are willing to put in some effort.

If the unit convenor is the same one - just be prepared for some heavy workload at the end of the semester. Do STAT170 if you can - the statistics component in psych is lectured ok, but there is no textbook and no homework/practice exercises. So when it came to applying this stuff in the end of the semester, ppl were epicly stuck. Most of the more interestingly taught lectures are after the midsem break. Tutorials are utterly useless in their content if you know how to use turnitin and listened to psyc104 lecture on ethics in research.

All I can say is it's very content heavy and disorganized.

Very disorganised. Content heavy. Not impressed.

Content-wise, although this unit is highly theory-based, it explores some very interesting concepts in different fields of psychology. However, I (and many other people) found this unit to be quite poorly organised - a prime example of this: the research hypotheses which we needed to test were not released until a week before the group presentation was due. Also, the last lecture (which was 4 or so days before the exam) wasn't even a revision lecture. Luckily, my tute class had a friendly tutor who tried her best to alleviate the stress that came with this unit. In terms of assignments, the research report was marked quite harshly given this is a first-year unit (around 2/3 either failed or, like me, got a pass). Don't let that scare you, though; if you study the content and know it, you can easily make up for the research report in the exam. TL;DR: interesting concepts, marred by very poor organisation and hard marking.

The textbook is interesting. But I have to say this subject is really poor organised. For example, we didn't get the data for presentation until a week before it. And they expected us to cover such huge information in 11 minutes (the whole research!!!!). Also, four days before the final exam, we still had a lecture... You really have to work hard for this unit. Look through all the supporting materials. If you have to take this unit (like me), GOOD LUCK!!!
