You do not need the textbook for this one. I made the mistake of buying one new and not once did I open it. This subject is beneficial for someone who has a decent background in mathematics (I on the otherhand did not, when I did this subject). The assessments when I did the unit were; one purely numbers/graphs based and another entirely theory based. If you are well balanced in numbers and writing, this is the subject for you.

This unit is good for someone who enjoys maths, and is interested in the world populations. The calculations are sort of straight forward once you understand, but the assignments are long and tedious. The lecturere and tutors are nice and helpful. Topics are mostly engaging.

suited to someone who has some level of maths background. If you have that then this subject would be heaps easy. Otherwise try to stay away if you are looking for a people unit.

DEM127/MKTG127 has a lot of interesting content on life table, population health, age structure etc. As a health student, it helps me prepare a lot for other units such as ENVG219 Geographical Perspective of Population. There is a lot of calculation in this unit, and all the assessments are quite long as well.
