Reviews

I hated this unit, it was a core subject for my BPsych BCognitiveBrainScience degree and as someone who had any experience with coding it felt like i was thrown in the deep end. I was the only woman in my tutorial (i counted 14 max in the lectures) and i was also the only student in my tutorial that wasn' studying cyber security/mechatronics. programming felt like learning a new language for me and every week other students were complaining about how easy the content was while i was spending most of my time trying to learn the basics despite attending all lectures, tutorials and pass sessions.

Among the best introductions to programming you will find anywhere. The pacing of this unit errs on the slow side to make sure no one falls behind. Unlike many other introductory programming courses, Macquarie's COMP1000 uses the graphical Processing library. Your assignments and practical exercises will involve using your programming skills to create images and animations, not simply command-line output. (Note: I did this unit as COMP115 in 2016 S1. StudentVIP doesn't let me select this.)

Excellent unit for starting computer programming, uses a stripped down version of Java called Processing and is a useful starting point for people new to the concepts of coding

Great unit for getting into programming. Doing all the questions each practical should really help in doing well in this unit.
