Reviews

COMP1130 is an excellent course for those who loves the content. Unfortunately, it isn't very well taught, and a particular professor whom I will not name does not do a very good job at teaching this course. However, the content in COMP1130 gains my respect: lambda calculus, which immediately throws first year students into the world of computer science theory, which I believe is much better than teaching students how to draw shapes in python as a first year course.

If you're doing COMP1100, and youre thinking of doing COMP1130, heres the difference; 1130 has extra extension bits for assignments and labs, which are tricky and often really interesting. you also get an extra 1130 only lecture each week, The content in this lecture is more theoretical and it pays to have a stronger math background. think proofs about your code, and some first principles stuff. If you're not math inclined or doing an honors stream degree, think about whether this course is really for you 🤔
