Reviews
Have to disagree with most of the reviews here. The unit coordinator, Sebastiaan is very nice and patient, but I do have to agree that he does not respond promptly to emails (not only for online students, but all students), so better get your questions ready during workshops and tutes. Other than that, he is a great unit coodinator and lecturer. He even gave the whole cohort a one week extension for one of our assessments. Each group were only given 20 mins of consultation time for one of our assessments and my team went for more than 40 mins because we had a lot of questions, yet he seemed happy to answer all our questions properly. He moved a few of the workshops online as some of them are basically Q&A, which should make it better for online students as well. Lastly, he released the final exam mark on LMS 4 days after we did the exam. I calculated all my marks and should have ended up with a 78.2% on my overall final mark, yet when I opened my results, he gave me an 80% (from a D to HD). I find all the assessments very clear and useful, especially the group project, it was one of the best assessment I have ever done during my time at UWA. We basically have to develop a startup in groups of 4/5 and we have 12 weeks to make it good. Every week, all the teams will talk about their startup development during the tutes and Sebastiaan/your tutor will give feedback. You will then have to pitch the business idea on the final week of uni. Another individual assignment is a report where you will have to interview potential customers that might be interested in your startup idea. The final assessment is a 50% worth exam, which was alright. It was all essay questions but we did it on LMS, which reduced the stress. If you really want to learn the basics on how to properly start a business, this unit is definitely a good choice. I came after reading reviews and hearing from friends how bad this unit is, but I ended up having a great time and learned a lot from this unit. The only cons would be that the LMS is a bit confusing (can't really explain, but it's not a big deal) and that you will have to work extra hard if you get a bad group. Sebastiaan picks the team for you, but I can assure you he knows what he is doing. My team had great dynamic even though we were all very different people, even better than the teams I usually picked myself and definitely better than working with my own friends.

Actually this unit is not as bad as it seems. The organisation is quite poor and the assessments are quite unclear, but content wise it is quite interesting. There are a lot hands-on experience and practical activities that you will have to do in order to complete this unit. I have to say that those are the best parts of this unit and I absolutely find it enjoying and very useful. I don't really wanna mention why, but I find Sebastiaan, the unit coordinator, very patient with his students. All the assessments up until the exam were marked fairly, but the exam itself was marked quite harshly. Do watch all his workshops if you want a high mark on the exams. If you don't watch and can get high marks, then you are either lucky or very genius.

Ok I am currently doing this unit and by far THE WORST AND MOST DISORGANISED UNIT in my marketing major. AND YES, I am a marketing major who must take this unit due to lack of level 3 marketing units in semester 1. I think UWA marketing needs to fix this issue. I don't know what I am doing in this unit. The unit coordinator is not responsive and very little support is provided for online students (I know most units are like this, but this unit is worse). Assessments are unclear and the 'tutorials' are a mess. Maybe as time goes by I will come to tolerate this unit, but for now, I will give it a 1 star. I will delete and write another review by the end of this unit if things are getting better, but I can see that it is unlikely.

DO NOT TAKE THIS UNIT. This was a core unit for me so I had no choice but to take the unit but if you can avoid taking this unit, please do! It was incredibly disorganised and convoluted from the get-go. There seemed to be no communication or co-ordination between the unit co-ordinator and tutors whatsoever. This meant that our tutorial sessions (which were called 'consultancy' sessions) included getting the same feedback over and over again as our ‘consultant’ (tutor or unit coordination present during the tutorial) would change from week to week. No disrespect intended toward the tutors or their entrepreneurial skills; however, their tutoring skills were subpar (I do think this had to do with the general lack of direction for the entire unit, they didn’t have much to work with). The actual content of the unit is also delivered strangely. The unit co-ordinator has uploaded youtube videos and you have to watch around 2 each week. You also have to attend a workshop which covers the exact content that was covered in the youtube videos just with an added example. It is very inefficient and disengaging. The worst part by far was the lack of direction provided for the actual assessment pieces and that the majority consists of group work. 2 people in our group did no work and there was not even a peer review mechanism. We emailed the unit co-ordinator and received no reply, we then emailed our tutor and her pretty much told us to get on with it. Tutors could not answer a single question students would ask about the assessments and they would always say that the unit co-ordinator would cover it but he rarely clarified anything. My point it do not take this unit unless you want to suffer.
