Assignments are pretty easy being multiple choice with 3 attempts per submission, if you've got 1 or 2 mates you all can easily get 100% on the assignments, tests are marked fairly Miccal is the goat lecturer

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2024

Very easy unit if you just do the weekly workshop questions (about 2 hours worth of work per week), and go through the lecture slides and worked examples. I wouldn't recommend watching or attending the lectures, as the lecturer just reads off the slides at a fast pace. The lecturer and unit coordinator were friendly enough though. However it did miss some useful content from the ATAR Spec course, like simple harmonic motion and statistics. This does make sense, as the unit is attempting to condense two years' worth of content into 12 weeks, but the first few weeks were not useful as they just covered basic Methods content. Overall, the unit is a good recap of the ATAR Spec course for those who did not complete it in high school or need a refresher.

Very content heavy so you move through pretty fast, Miccal is a great lecturer and really makes the boring content a bit better. The workload is manageable but yeah 4 lectures a week plus a workshop can be tough. The assessments are really easy to get 100% in (9 hours to do 1 hour of work) but the exam is decently difficult. It’s a pretty important unit though so can’t really complain, just have to try stay on top of it.

Super easy HD if you study well. Even though I failed the first test, I managed to get 90% overall by the end of the unit.

This unit was amazing and fun to do

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2019

The whole unit was unorganized and just lazily conducted. We literally were not given enough knowledge to do the questions and then the feedback was unhelpful and frustrating. It seems like the tutors genuinely don't care if you pass or fail. I had to do extra research on the formulas because the lectures made no sense. How are we supposed to know if we are doing it correctly if you refuse to teach?

Awful unit, terrible coordinator and worst experience ever. Overly conceptual and boring content that barely taught us to approach questions. The tutorial questions were so irrelevant and rarely clarified. I really do not think I lack the ability to understand math, this was just incredibly disorganised. I would not recommend this unit to anyone unless you want to suffer.

I enjoyed this unit primarily because of how well it was explained; each new concept or new detail had the entire formula deconstructed into nice bite-sized chunks to really help you digest the entire course (see what I did there?). I liked how, unlike high school, the lecturer was able to elaborate on the applications of some of the formulas and what to expect in future units (MATH1012 & MATH1011). I would definitely recommend doing this unit as it will help you really begin to grasp the beautiful "complexity" mathematics possesses. Of course, disclaimer, I am a math nerd so it does not take much to impress me. If you are not motivated or enjoy maths, I recommend finding someone doing the course and ask them if you can study with them :) Just take notes on the lectures, go to brilliant.org or Professor Dave explains to fill in the gaps, and you'll be fine buddy. Don't worry about buying a textbook.

Please don't take this unit! This unit had the most work for it out of the units I took, ruined my semester, and now wish I hadn't taken it. Past year papers given were also in no way indicative of actual finals. Would not recommend unless its a compulsory unit.

While the tutor is nice, the sheer amount of content is poorly organised and misleading . I found that most of the explanations in the tutorials were ridiculously complex and non-informative. This unit is designed to trip you up, and there is such little support when you do have questions. A complete waste of time, worth 0 stars.
