Reviews

This review is for the SSP course (PHYS1903), which is identical apart from the labs. The lecturers were fine, the best being the first lecturer for mechanics. The content was covered very quickly, it felt like the lectures were rushed and so it required a lot of external study to actually understand the content. The lectures include really complicated maths which is not actually required in the exam, such as the derivation of formulae. It is good to understand, but dont think that's what you need for the exam. The tutorials were basically spent as a discussion, which was great to clarify confusion from the lectures. The labs were ok, but the SSP project was fun; we got to devise our own experiment relating to spectrometry. I would recommend taking SSP over advanced if you've got the marks to get in.

Kinda boring tbh, especially the labs. Course overall is decent but labs took it down a start, three hours a week of uninteresting pracs only to get you the lab checkpoints and no understanding.

Can be a tough course if you don't put in the effort. There is overlap from HSC Physics, but the HSC version may give you a false sense of security as maths is much more important to answer questions and get good marks

Great lecturers and demonstrations. The course is much more maths-heavy than HSC Physics. Make sure you do all the past papers- questions are often recycled into future exams.
