An okay subject - not super difficult. The content feels kind of disjointed and I didn't feel like I'd actually learnt anything I'll remember. There was some drama with what was and wasn't allowed in the exam, which was frustrating. The labs were sort of interesting but very long. The workshops tended to be quite boring. This is an okay subject. The workshops could be quite boring at times and none of the content felt very connected. Most (all?) of the stuff that was actually assessed in the exam was delivered in the form of online lectures that you were supposed to watch in your own time. That made the workshops feel somewhat irrelevant. It also meant that you didn't really feel like you were learning anything. The labs were somewhat interesting but very long. There was a lot of waiting around (incubations, etc) and most of the actual lab techniques/procedures weren't super interesting (PCRs, etc.). The lab demonstrators were all super lovely though. The assessments weren't too tricky. The exam, which is in week 13, was open book (we had access to notes on our computers). The final report is a lot - it's on the content of the labs and involves you having to do a lot of your own research. The video task is kind of annoying because it involves skills that are sort of outside the purview of science (video editing, etc.) but the tutors and guest lecturers that help you on it a very nice. If you remember the stuff from the online lectures then you'll actually learn a ton about the biology of cancer. Otherwise, a good chunk of what you'll learn (in the workshops) is more to do with the sociological aspects of cancer and cancer treatment.

Very new unit so still needs some sorting out. Interesting content but its not assessed so there's no strong incentive to learn it as the assessments are based more on analytical research skills.
