A dry subject that will drag your WAM down. Although the actual content is not hard, the lecture slides are outdated and plagued by statistics from journal articles and lecturers read off the slide for hours on end. The group assignment is hell and tutorials are utterly useless, wasting your time every Friday afternoon. Although most of the tutors are nice, the unit coordinator is a grumpy old lady who is obsessed with grade distributions and she emerges from the shadows once at the end of semester when she’s rolling her eyes at your presentation. She is demeaning and will make sure that majority of final student grades falls within the H3-H2B range, even if you’ve averaged 90%+ throughout the semester. It’s very clear the subject is run by some so called dieticians and nutritionist who have a high ego and in reality struggle to find real employment, when nutrition should be much more enjoyable and not as complicated as these clowns make it to be.

Content was overall dry. The MST was fair, but the exam was a real mess. Half the questions were from the required readings rather than lecture material. The questions that concerned the lecture material went into niche areas which the lecturer specifically said “you don’t need to know this in detail”. But far the easiest subject I’ve had in terms of content but the most poorly structured in terms of assessment. Do better.

Assignment rubrics have contradicting content, tutorials are not that helpful, poorly coordinated subject, examined on lectures that did not have a lot of content to extract from. Thought it was a WAM booster, it’s not.

group assignment is actual hell and the lectures are mostly boring. definitely do the readings. easy to score highly imo, our cohort tanked the MST but they must have moderated it/the exam

i agree with the previous review, i found the contents of this subject very straightforward and easy to remember since it relates to real-life situations and the topics were also interesting. however the lectures were very dry, sometimes the lecturer would read from the slide and passes the time limit of 2 hours. dreaded watching these lectures so much. other than that, i enjoyed the group assignment part of this subject.

This subject is really interesting, and it's definitely not too hard to score well in as well. You have three assignments; a critical review, a group assignment (essay), and a video group assignment. All of the assignments are doable and not too hard, but it does spent a bit of my time since the marking was quite detailed. As for the MST and the exam, the MCQs were easy. The SAQs are relatively easy as well. However, in the final exam, you do need to memorise things since there are a lot of questions with no many time. One tip from me is to answer the SAQs with the most detail answers as possible. For example, if you want to describe how a GI value influence certain illnesses, do explain what GI value is - that's the level of detail they're looking for. End up with a H1 and I'm glad with the overall experience! Recommended for an elective.
