A very independent learning subject that requires a decent amount of research on niche topics, developing unique arguments and engagement with music in relation to Australia’s history, like colonisation, Australian identity, etc. As for workload, you write 5 essays totalling to around 3500 words with references, moderate workload but finding references was a challenge so don’t make your essay contentions too niche. Attend your seminars on campus or zoom livestream (they are not recorded) if you want to do well, as the guest lecturers will indirectly answer the assignment topics. The average assignment marks were 70% but final essay was 80% so everyone got a nice boost (bell-curved). The class is small so the subject coordinator Linda will remember your name. Only downside was no rubrics and having to use Chicago B referencing, but if you present interesting insights and arguments, demonstrate thorough research and write fluently you should score well! Scored low 90s so upper range marks are definitely achievable.
