Reviews

I took on this subject with information about China from textbooks, media and news. However, the lectures and content were very different and highlighted China's achievements and its progress. It helps that the lecturer Mark is Chinese and has lived and worked there. He's a great lecturer and the main reason why many of us attended the early lectures. Meanwhile, the tutor, Fanqi was very chill about assessments and very accessible when it came to questions. I just didn't like how disorganised the readings and tutorial content were, they often clashed with the content shown in the lecturer. Nonetheless, take this subject if you want to see the 'real' China and not what is presented to us through the media.

Omg I loved this subject. People who like to learn something new about countries or just love geography take this subject. The lecturer Mark is very interesting speaker. I did not miss any lecture because it is just so enjoyable to listen him. Note that all assisments ask u to write. So, u actually have at least be prepared a bit. However, all ssisment topics were very enjoyable and could be done with love.

The content in this subject is interesting and the lecturer is engaging and humorous. However, the tutors were mostly hopeless and didn't have sufficient english or teaching skills to facilitate a good discussion. I have heard that vicky was the only good one. The organisation also wasn't great, with the lecturer and the tutor giving different information about assessments. The assignments were interesting because mostly the topics are self-elected but the in class quiz was on really random info in the lectures rather than on developing a critical view on the issues discussed in the course. I would recommend doing it only if you get a good tutor.
