Reviews

The subject was well run and multidisciplinary. The content itself was not difficult but focused too much on abstract concepts for my liking i.e. reductionist vs complexity science. The group project constitutes a rather large portion of your overall mark.

Contested Resources was an excellent subject, bringing together varying perspectives, theories, and frameworks on resource management. Helena was a knowledgable, supportive, and encouraging teacher who was very thorough in her demonstration of the application of class content to 'real-world' scenarios. The major assessment task also supported this application very well, and allowed students room to cater their project to an area of their interest. The students' interests were broad ranging, including engineering, physical geography, human geography, environmental science, land management, social sciences, etc., and all were catered for in class content and assignment scope. I would highly recommend this subject to all who want a well-rounded view of complex resource management issues, but specifically to Science or Arts (Geography, Anthropology, Politics and International Studies) students who wish to gain some knowledge about aspects of resource management that fall outside their discipline.
