Agreed with the previous post. Easily one of the harshest-marked subjects I’ve taken. My marks here ended up even lower than in my core subjects, which says a lot. Usually breadths are meant to balance things out, but this one did the opposite. The feedback is super strict and the marking feels unforgiving, so even if you put in effort, it doesn’t translate into grades.

Honestly, this subject is a WAM trap. The marking is super harsh. EVERY tiny detail gets picked apart, and it feels like they’re looking for reasons to deduct marks rather than reward effort. Even if you put in the work, the grades don’t reflect it. It’s definitely not a WAM booster but more of a WAM bomber. I went in thinking it would be a good breadth, but the marking style is so strict that it just ends up dragging your average down. If you’re really protective of your WAM, I’d think twice before taking this one.

Interesting subject. I enjoyed the content. Refreshing to have a class online, especially when all other subjects require many face to face hours. Marking was quite harsh.

I took this subject over the winter break. Overall, I was shockingly disappointed by the lack of instruction and assistance in conducting the assignments, especially the 2 assignments that majorly contribute to the overall score (research journal, theatre review). I understood that the subject would be intense, as it would only run across 2 weeks. But the lack of presence from the coordinator took a big toll in my understanding of what I was supposed to research and write. I had heard great reviews from this subject and personally, I have deep passion in the theatre industry. Yet, after receiving my overall mark (a pass), I felt greatly cheated of my efforts and love for theatre. They were marked really harshly with little to no justification, and it had dragged my wam down significantly. Either way, this subject was not enjoyable or fulfilling to me. Not recommended.

The subject coordinator is super considerate and welcoming. They are always there to help you in any ways including generating ideas. I strongly enjoyed this subject. Not only did it boost my wam, it also allowed me to focus on my other subjects. Assessments: - Online quiz (20%) Difficulty: ⭐ Multiple choice quiz. You are given plenty of time to go through subject materials and your notes to answer pretty straightforward questions. - Research Journal (40%, 1600words) Difficulty: ⭐⭐ You are asked to write a reflective journal consisting of 5 entries, which means you only have to write one entry a week. The topic for each entry has to stem from any given week's module and you are given the freedom to do your own research. You can write about your thoughts or discuss questions that may arise when you are reading through the weekly modules. - Comparative Review (40%, 1500words) Difficulty: ⭐⭐⭐ The last few modules of the subject are about theatre reviewing. So you can spend this time for your comparative review. You are asked to write a comparative review on two MTC plays, or any other plays you have watched recently. This assessment may seem challenging, but reading professional theatre reviews will give you a pretty good idea on how theatre reviews are written.
