Reviews

It was a decent crim subject, but nothing special. The first few weeks discuss general trends in crime policy such as neoliberalism and governing through crime. These were interesting, however these trends were applied over and over until it became quite repetitive. It would have been much better if there was greater focus on present issues rather than trying to constantly apply theory. However, the readings chosen were excellent and challenged my conceptions of what justice can (or should) look like.

It was interesting and I liked how relevant the subject was as it was rooted in real world examples. Essay topics were kind of boring and repetitive.

If you did Punishment and social control in your second year, those stuffs you learnt will come in handy in this subject. Particularly the stuffs about Foucault, Garland, and Feeley/Simon. At first glance, the essay topics are a bit challenging, but as a third year student, I am pretty sure you know how to seek help, discussing with your tutors etc. In short, although the topics are challenging, tutors are the ones who mark your work. Make sure you discuss with them about your essay plans, and coupled with your prior knowledge gained in PSC, you will write some outstanding stuffs. My score is H1.
