pretty good subject and i had a good tutor who laid out all the expectations for the assignments so it was really easy to do well in. diana is a great lecturer too as she is clearly passionate about the things studied in this subject.

The content is very interesting, and you won't have to dedicate a lot of time throughout the semester as a level 2 breadth. However, you will be busy for sure during the periods of two essays as they require a LOT of reading and research beyond the provided resources.

This subject was quite interesting. I learnt a lot about the prison system, theorists on prison, and life experiences from ex-prisoners. This subject should really be called: The Prison. It really has nothing to do with 'punishment and social control' the closest you get to that is when you learn about focuault in week 7. Diana was great. The assessments are a little tricky, and require a lot of research.

Subject interesting and well organised, but hard to do well in

Interesting, comprehensive, organised. Easy enough to be an elective for all arts students. H1 is attainable (but they mark on a bell curve)

One of the best criminology subjects the school has to offer! Lectures were very well organised and engaging and the tutorials were insightful. Assessments were weighty but really challenged me to engage critically with the entire content. I also learned a lot about the Criminal Justice System and the prison through this subject and it increased my passion for criminology.

Such a fantastic and eye-opening subject, one of my favourites I have taken so far at UniMelb. The content is fascinating and really opens your eyes to the way we view the CJS. However, this subject is no walk in the park. The readings are long and dense, and tutorials can be a little dry and boring. Assessments are challenging and are marked on the harsher side. Though, still, a worthwhile subject to take and I highly recommend!

One of the best subjects ive taken at unimelb

excellent subject. rachel, the tutor, and diana, the lecturer, were amazing resources. the theory has helped me throughout the rest of my degree and actually in my graduate role. a true intersectional approach is taken. rare at unimelb.

Insightful and easy to comprehend. If you are a crim major, I highly recommend this subject. Best subject I have taken at UoM as well.
