Reviews

I love this subject! The materials are interesting, we learned a lot about diabetes & cancer (which I particularly like). Some lecturers are better than others, but I particularly love Kristin! However, as many of the reviews have mentioned, it is not really academically rewarding since it is quite hard to score well in the assignments. The MSTs were fair in difficulty, but the assignments can be difficult & it requires a lot of critical thinking! However, a good elective to think of doing if u're majoring in BCMB!

A very interesting but challenging subject. Most of the content was applicable to real life, and I particularly enjoyed learning about diabetes and cancer metabolism. Heather is a brilliant coordinator too - despite the transition to online learning, she handled everything extremely well - lectures were well-organised, all tutorials/extra Q&A sessions were recorded, and she responded to all concerns very quickly. The content of the lectures themselves flowed very well too. The exam was fair in terms of difficulty, but I (and many others) felt it was marked to a very high standard, so we were quite disappointed with our final grades (this was my lowest scoring BCMB subject). Overall, definitely an enjoyable subject, but perhaps not as rewarding as the other BCMB subjects (realistically I would rate this subject 4.5/5).

Absolutely loved this subject. They were able to give great feedback because there weren't many students. The content was all enjoyable and interesting because most of it can be directly related to your own life, particularly the diet, digestion, and immunometabolism sections. The assignment was also enjoyable - not something you can say about most subjects. The MSTs are mostly MCQ, and although the final exam was essay-style, they give very directed questions that are easy to answer if you payed attention to the lectures.
