BIO1022 IS LITERALLY AMAZING! Okay so listen, I had no prior experience in biology before bio1011 and bio1022 this year but im honestly loving it! During semester 1 when covid was messing up everything bio1011 was good but there was obviously difficult things that everyone was trying to adjust to through the online system. But the way in which the bio department have listened to our concerns completely blew me away this semester. There is so much support! Classes are amazing and fun, it honestly is my favourite unit. Reasonable workload too! You can tell they care for their students. So if youre thinking of doing this subject but biology kinda scares you, just go for it. No regrets at all.

The subject branches out a lot more than BIO1011 in terms of content that was not covered already by VCE 3/4. Nonetheless, you cover a lot of stuff that appeals to people interested in developmental bio and physiology. The assignments are generally more straightforward, and you'll probably be more used to how the department/uni in general works so you'll likely find this easier then BIO1011. The only thing to look out for are the plant lectures. They've improved immensely since I first took the unit in S1 2013, but my tutoring and PASS students have always complained about it. I would say read up heavily on the plant topics, especially alternation of generations, and focus on the visual guides they give. Overall a really strong unit.

It has interesting content, and following VCE biology it was not challenging. The workshops relied too heavily on the activities, which I did not find assisted my learning, while most of the learning was done alone in the pre-workshop work (this would not have bothered me except workshop attendance is a hurdle). The labs were great though, they really gave a better understanding of the content.

VCE biology really helps and so does the textbook, labs can get pretty intense so make sure you have had a good read of the manual before you go in for the sake of you and your partner, miles ahead of 1011 for enjoyment and topics, however still faces the same issues of TA's who are not the best

Unit is really similar to VCE 3&4 Biology although there are a few new topics that you’ll need to learn. Overall not too hard

Really enjoyed this unit. Different lecturers every 2-4 lectures and they were subject matter experts and generally very engaging. The exam is entirely MCQ but don't let that lure you into a false sense of security! This unit is interesting and reasonably paced - make sure you do the readings!

Good unit, but can get dry at times. Having notes helps a lot!
