Big jump in terms of difficulty from STAT1250. Covers ANOVA and regression in-depth, and if you are interested in Big Data / Machine Learning & Analytics coding you would enjoy this unit. Also teaches you how to code in R which is incredibly useful.

Very good choice and good tutorial classes

Key to this unit is self-direction. Previous offerings had a 3hr weekly lecture - we had a 2hr lecture. The content of thi unit reportedly has not changed since previous offerings, and much of this content was quite difficult, meaning the lectures were paced too fast to really understand theories. While there were many examples in the lectures to support these theories, they were often skimmed through due to time constraints. I didn't find the textbook overly useful for filling in the gaps left by the lectures, instead found accessing various external websites useful in explaining the assessable content. Much of the lecture was spent on learning to use a statistical coding software, and tutorial time was heavily concentrated on this as well. However, the vast majority of assessments did not require, nor necessitate the use of this software. While the lecturer's motivation to teach us this software was understandably for future careers in statistics, it would have been preferable to assess us more heavily on our use of this software. Alternatively, focusing less on the programming during the lectures and tutorials, and more on applying the theories to written questions would be advised. The convenor did provide substantial past papers and solutions in preparation for the final exam.

it's very hard to rate this - in terms of the content it was sometimes very interesting and Justin was very passionate about the class - he had some really good examples and was always happy to answer questions/concerns (i went to visit him on more then one occasion!). I found this subject very hard - it was difficult to match up the theory you needed to know with understanding as so much time went into being able to do the code in r-studio. Mainly you need to be able to interpret the output. 3 hours of lectures was also very difficult and the 1 hour prac was not great (especially at 8pm) - there were a lot of people in the class and the tutor have so much to go through so couldn't answer questions. The online participation quiz was annoying but they were good as a learning tool - just remember to submit them or they don't count (worst thing ever when your already stressed!!). this is one of the subjects where you CAN NOT FALL BEHIND!

Very poorly taught in the first semester with an immense language barrier. Tutorials are not long enough to practice using statistical softwares (particularly for new users). Be prepared to teach yourself most of the content.

Worst unit I have even studied. Poorly taught, no organisation or connection between lectures and pracs, language barrier seemed to be an issue at times. Poorly run.

Needs more examples and clearer slides. Having a recommended textbook would also be highly beneficial. The staff members are incredibly helpful and passionate.

A very useful unit to deepen your understanding of Statistics, with supportive staff. However, the slides are quite long and not as organised as introductory statistics units.
