This subject tackles some topics for which many young students today may have no frame of reference. The content is overall interesting, although challenging to understand for many. Sociology is fantastic when you are interested, but tedious if not. Prepare to be challenged to share and discuss your ideas. If you want to sit quietly in the back of your tute and hide, do not take this course.

Difficult unit. Readings are difficult to understand and assignments are marked hard. If analysing texts written in the 19th century is your thing then this is the unit for you.

Theories of modernity is a rigorous unit. It is my advice is that you pick the reading or theorist that you intend to focus on for your assessment as early as possible. Do not leave your choice until the last minute. Write at least three drafts of your final piece before submitting and ensure that your work has undergone a through proof read and edit for grammar as the tutors are sticklers for detail.
