If you did society and culture in high school then this unit will be an absolute breeze! I personally LOVED this unit as I find the content quite enagaging and the assessments to be fair. Each week was separated into topics such as social class, inequality, gender, race, religion, globalisation etc. There were weekly quizzes, a monopoly game and a final essay - all of which were relatively easy to complete. The 2 hour lecturers were a bit of a drag - but some of the guest lecturers were so engaging and lovely. It is not often you watch Rihanna's 'bitch better have my money' in a university lecture! To be frank, you could easily pass this unit without watching the lecturers and just reading the slides. I had Breanna as a tutor and she was a legend - so nice, funny and helpful! Overall, hands down one of my favourite subjects and ended up scoring a high HD in the unit with not too much effort.

The lectures and tutorials are very slow yet its an easy subject to pass as there's no final exam and easy content

i enjoyed the content of the unit however 2 hr lectures are difficult. i recommend doing this unit externally as it means you dont have to go into uni. i used this as my people elective.

If you are looking for an elective to waste and fill your degree in then this would fit right in. In my experience the essays are marked in a strange peculiar style. Somewhat boring unit altogether but easy enough to get credit. BTW if u have K Aquino.. I suggest change ur tutorial class... outrageous marker.

This unit was boring and the two hour lectures didn't make it any easier to focus. The tutorials are pretty much redundant. However, there is no exam and the assignments are pretty easy.

It was a really wonderful introduction to sociology (provided you had a good academic - - which I did)! I found it gave a great introduction to all areas of sociology so you could find what area you were particularly interested in (criminology, gender, economics from a sociological perspective etc.)

Great introductory subject. I did this in my first semester of my first year of university in 2010 and I remember it being an all-round type of subject, which provided a great introduction not only into sociology, but into university as well :) enjoy!
