This was the hardest unit I ever took in first year, but ended up being the best one. It's a lot of science and scientific principles and will most likely disillusion those believing psychology is just about counselling LOL. That being said, You'll learn so much about how the brain is responsible for our reactions, and perception. Everything from emotion to memory, to how neurons convey electrical impulses to colour perception. The unit convenors were really helpful too. I highly recommend this unit to those who want to know more about the sciencey-aspect of psychology.

It's initially one of the hardest first year units you can take. It does get easier later, but be prepared to study. Readings were not helpful and very convoluted, you should focus almost exclusively on the lecture/tutorial content if you take this unit. Quizlet can answer the weekly quizzes. Questions for the final exam are recycled every year, so if you memorize the questions and answers from previous years you can ace the exam easily. The unit conveners and tutors are all very nice people and are understanding and patient in regards to most students finding the content difficult to learn.

Content heavy unit. As it is an introductory unit, there are many concepts to get your head around.

I loved this unit. It was quite challenging however and unfortunately my tutor didn't really seem to know the answer to many of our questions. It's a very 'do it yourself' unit. Lots and lots of hard work and figuring things out myself, but good marks are achievable if you do the weekly quizzes and readings!

It was hard work and took quite a lot of study, but if you can get through the first few weeks of content, it's very interesting!

Content was very heavy, the first few weeks are the most difficult but after that the content starts to make sense. The exam was easy, mostly based on the last year's exam. Quizzes were also easy but keep in mind that unlike other units you have to do the quizzes before the lectures. The book is quite complicated with lots of scientific jargon. Whereas the lecturer Mark was really good at summarising the lectures and making sense of the scientific Jargon

Don't give you much help to get through this unit. Content is hard and not very well explained in the lectures. Tutor did nothing to consolidate any of the content. Lab Reports were ridiculously marked.

this is a really interesting but pretty complex unit. If you can get through the first 3 weeks then you are set cause those are by far the most difficult after that it becomes really interesting and more broad.
