I enjoyed this unit more than I thought I would. The new convenor, Hasinika, is very engaging and explains content clearly. The lecture material is a mashup of BIOL115/206 and CBMS223 so of you've done those already you'll be fine. The practical series is challenging since it continues throughout the semester, but Hasinika runs the prac classes and helps out a lot. The practical report will take up a lot of your time for not many marks, so make sure you start ASAP! The midsem and final are fairly straight forward. There is a 30(?) mark extended response in the final, so pick your question (from a past paper) and plan it out a few weeks before the exam! Easy HD for Med Sci students as long as you keep organised :)

Despite the friendly faculty staff, this subject really was awful. Heavy content, poorly explained to the point I was even more confused - I pretty much had to teach myself everything in this subject from a combination of textbook sources (lectures were useless).

Content is tough, tutorials are challenging and designed to make you critically think about the material. Do not fall behind in this unit. Make summaries of the differences between eukaryotes and prokaryotes, and do the past papers to do well in this unit.

Went into this unit hating it, but ended up really enjoying it. If you print out the lecture slides and annotate them that is all you need to review. The assignment was really long, ended up at 4000 words.

Fairly dull subject in terms of lectures, and the lecture notes are of no help when it comes to studying. Like most science units the final exam was worth way too much (55%). Pretty interesting and useful practical sessions though.

Pretty boring subject, probably would be more interesting if the lecturer had better presenting skills.

Need to be on task with this unit, if you fall behind you can really fall behind. The reason for this is much of the info can not be read in a textbook it has to be learnt from lectures and class notes.
