A terrific unit! The convenor was excellent and she provided plenty of worthwhile feedback. Make sure you attend all lectures, tutorials and practicals. You would also be wise to attend at least one PAL session per week. The content will likely help you prepare for the organic chemistry flavoured questions in Section III of the GAMSAT.

As in intro subject to organic chemistry, obviously this subject has quite a lot of content and a wide range of topics too, so it can get a bit difficult if you don't stay up-to-date. Joanne's lectures can get a bit overwhelming and sometimes contain a bit too much info we don't need to know for the exam so I found the best way to ace this subject is completing the past papers (they're almost identical each year) and making mind-maps with reactions, structure etc. on each topic (amino acids, aldehydes, etc.). Also, if this subject isn't your forte, probably would avoid any 200 level CBMS units as they all build on knowledge learnt in this subject.

Found it difficult to keep up with lectures as there was so much content, but attending PAL sessions was helpful in understanding the concepts. Try the tutorial questions, go through the lectures thoroughly, and be organised in practicals. Enjoyed the topics even though it was difficult

At first this unit seems hard, however if you go to every lecture/tutorial and PAL the content becomes so easy. Joanne is also super sweet.

This is very well put together introductory organic chemistry course. If you put the time in the subject is actually quite easy going. If you fall behind, however, you may find your self struggling to catch up as there is a lot of content to learn. The unit convenor is a lovely and approachable person.

You definitely need background knowledge of chemistry to pass this unit. The unit convenor has such a sweet heart, she does anything to help her students out! She is great at simplifying difficult concepts!
