Stay on top of the content. Concepts aren't hard to grasp. You'll be fine if you are willing to put in the work. Rachel, Jaco and Jess are amazing!!!

Overall a pretty good unit. Jess is an amazing tutor, but the course could use more lab work (despite having weekly pracs you only do one practical activity, the rest are like tutorials) and assessment outlines are very vague. There's also quite a disparity between the lecture and tutorial content and it shows when you get to the exam component.

An all-round great unit! The content is interesting and the lab work is fun if you invest your time in to it! The convener has changed since I did the unit and she's not as good as Adam, but the unit itself is definitely worth taking!

This subject can pretty much be split into Conceptual Genetics (advanced concepts built from BIOL115) and Genetic Problem Solving (more mathematical). I personally loved the conceptual side but the problem solving was quite dry and sometimes a little tricky to pick up. The lectures were quite useless in this subject for me and I relied entirely on textbooks, self-learning approaches and past papers. The practical component of the subject is quite boring and correlates with the 'scientific essay task' so make sure you're making notes from week 1 onwards as to what you're doing in pracs, or else the essay task will prove difficult. Faculty staff weren't really helpful and marked the assessment tasks quite harsh. The exception was Jessica Thompson (prac tutor) - definitely recommend choosing a class with her, she pretty much saved me in this subject.

Good subject. Lab work is engaging and content is relatively easy to learn. Past papers are very helpful. The report assignment requires a lot of effort though.

Its okay, pracs are quite pointless after week 5 but its interesting

Interesting subject, necessary to keep up with lecture content. Good first 2nd year BIOL subject to take as the practicals are interesting and not too demanding. Easy to keep up with work, but the assignments need thought/hard work.

Good introductory subject! Lab work is interesting as you have to discover what species' DNA you have. Found content a little dry but necessary.
