Hilde changed the unit structure from last year as it apparently got a lot of backlash. Personally, the unit wasn't amazing nor bad. The unit structure was a group presentation, seminar paper and research essay (so no exam). This unit just require a lot of continuous effort, so if that's not you I wouldn't recommend. I would recommend going to the first few tutorials because that's how you meet your group, but after that you don't need to since tutorials are not marked. I found the tuts not useful at all, so I practically did this entire unit at home. The lecture time was bad because it was at 2pm which just cut through the middle of the day and the tuts are later too. There wasn't a lot of flexibility and options in tut times sadly, but it's not like you had to go to them anyways haha. Some content was interesting and some lectures literally put me to sleep. I wish there were more guest lecturers from the law school instead of just one person delivering the lectures- no offence to Hilde at all, I just like diversity and different teaching styles. Overall unit is average, the content isn't hard, it's just the effort required for the assessment tasks, and Hilde is so lovely and supportive and always sends out weekly check in emails.

This unit is not run very well. There are two assessments in this unit, one is a research essay with a presentation component, and the other is also a research essay. For the first essay, you get to choose any recent criminal policy and write an essay evaluating it. You also have to do a ten-minute presentation with a partner about the policy. For the second essay, each topic is related to the content covered in one particular week of lectures. The assessment structure means that you do not have to watch any of the lectures except for the one corresponding to the topic you pick for the second essay. Tutorial attendance is not assessed and not many people attended. I am not really able to comment on the quality of the teaching because I only watched one lecture, but the lectures and tutorials appeared to be poorly run. On the upside, the essay topics that I chose were interesting to write about. The essays time consuming but were marked fairly. This unit is fairly easy for a third-year unit, but I didn't really learn anything new.

Worse unit I have taken so far, unfortunately is a core unit for me so had to take it, avoid otherwise. The tutorials do not go over any content and there is no structure to how things are run. You have to do a presentation and there's no proper assignment structure on what is expected. Only pro is there is no exam.
