Aidan's work as the unit coordinator is highly commendable as the unit is incredibly well structured and straightforward for the most part. The assessments are split into 3 parts (weekly participation = 15%, assignment = 30%, and end-of-semester open-book exam = 55%). For the weekly participation, I would recommend going to the tutorials as prepared as possible. This includes filling out the worksheets beforehand, doing the readings (which are fairly short) and watching the lectures. Try to participate in the tutorials as much as possible in order to achieve a good grade as it is not just based on attendance but also how much you contribute. The assignment was difficult but enjoyable to write, just be sure to carefully read the questions and relevant laws/cases as it is very easy to get derailed from the topic and miss out on a lot of marks as a result. Finally, the exam was also quite do-able and open-book. While the unit coordinator provides 'lecture outlines' for each weekly lecture, please be sure to start creating your own lecture notes from the beginning of the semester for the exam and regularly revise the cases/laws. During this exam, it is very easy to get lost in the piles of notes due to the large volume of content, so keep your notes minimum quantity but maximum quality and make sure that your are well-familiarised with them (I cannot stress this enough)! While the unit was mostly positive and interesting, I personally found it quite difficult to navigate around the various law/cases and due to the volume of content. And since there are number of people who come from various backgrounds to do this unit as an elective (and possible have never even done a law unit before), I think that there could be a way to possibly make the process of studying easier. I also found the lecture outlines to be of limited use as they were basically regurgitating the lecture slides and again difficult to navigate. Finally, due to the limited assessment components, the 'first' official grade/feedback I had received for this unit was for my assignment which was later in the semester (i.e., week 9ish), hence I had no way of knowing how I was tracking with the content or how well/poorly I was performing assessment-wise. So, I also think that this can cause some stress for students towards the end of the semester and approaching the exams, also also result in them missing the opportunity to drop out if they are struggling. Overall, while this unit was good, due to it's content-heavy and challenging nature, I would not recommend it as an elective, especially for someone who has never done a law unit before as it is certainly not an easy D/HD.

Great unit. The content is super interesting and really well structured. The unit is related to medical law and focuses on the law that exists at different stages of life (birth, life, and death). The lectures and tutorials were both enjoyable. Aidan (the lecturer) is really passionate about this subject and it shows through his teaching. Aidan has created lecture outlines/notes for each lecture which contain all the information from the lecture slides. This means that you can give your full attention to the lecture and just write down important info not already on the slides. The essay assignment was challenging but interesting. The exam was open-book, and quite straightforward. This unit is very interesting and engaging and is fairly easy to do well in if you watch the lectures, prepare for tutorials, and study for the exam. I found that because the lectures were interesting and notes were mostly already made, I remembered a lot of the content, which allowed me to do well on the exam. I would highly recommend this unit!

Challenging and content-heavy unit but a worthwhile one!! Aidan is an incredible tutor, and handles the content so efficiently. Topics are super interesting to learn about as well. Tutorial participation is assessed but classes are run so that everyone gets a fair chance at speaking - even if your contributions are short, if they're thoughtful/considered you'll get high/full marks for this. Can 100% recommend as an enjoyable unit.

Best unit ive studied at UWA so far!! Aidan is an exceptional tutor, honestly the only tutorial I looked forward to attending. The content is so interesting but the exam was a bit much, despite being open-book. Would definitely recommend this unit to anyone interested in law or medicine.
