I cannot recommend this unit enough. This history unit gives you the opportunity to begin understanding family history and begin working with primary sources. The three assignments are - participation - a memoir book review - a 2000 word family history essay based upon a member of your own family. The final assignment let me practice interview skills, take photos of primary sources from my families stories for photo elicitation & practice weaving primary and secondary sources into a cohesive narrative. The essay also made a beautiful gift to my family members, since I’d created a document about someone they loved so much. I’d highly recommend this for history students and as an elective. One of my favourite units to date.
