It really is not that bad of a unit if you have been out of school for a long time. I did prefer my tutor from 2016 over this new one for this semester and the unit guide was all over the place this semester with dates getting changed. Assessments include An opinion article - too bad if your opinion is wrong Essay Plan - 10% for a plan... Oral Pres. - Stock Standard Essay - 40% Journal - This was my biggest issue , as someone who writes everything out the tutor couldn't understand why i didn't just buy a laptop , not all of us are rich. The best approach was in 2016 , the tutor checked to see you'd done the work and marked it off though you do still need to hand it in . Overall it was an enjoyable enough unit at times , i had a decent class of mature aged students with a few younger students. An easy credit or distinction for minimal effort.

If you are after an easy hd this one is for you, but if you want something at least slightly interesting steer clear. There is no need to watch lectures as they are useless and assignments don't help whatsoever.

Despite what others have said here I found this unit quite interesting. It is not a unit with a lot of content to learn but it is a unit to push your English skills to the academic level or double check it is already there and so in that context it is a very good unit in achieving that aim. The only thing I agree with is that the marking was quite arbitrary and also it wasn't clearly defined on things like what percentage one would lose for something like being over the world limit or being under the required amount of references. This was one of the most enjoyable units for me because I was able to choose topics that interest me (sex) and do research on them accordingly, therefore I felt hardly any pressure and could actually enjoy studying it. The lecture Helen was very very engaging with the audience and therefore was quite captivating, it also included some basic philosophy and media studies content. A great introductory unit!

Absolutely horrendous unit, very little practical relevance

Definitely an easy unit, and pretty pointless. Sadly, it's a prerequisite for basically every major in the BA. I understand the need for a foundational unit (or at least the need for foundational skills to be tested), but this one offered very little. Marking is generally pretty arbitrary, but a decent mark in high school English should translate to a high mark in this. After finishing the final exam, I felt like I could've sat down and taken the same exam at the beginning of the semester and scored exactly the same. Certainly no value for money, and I feel sorry for anyone paying full fees who has to take this.

This unit could have been better. The Unit Outline was sloppy and confusing. Content was ok but not as relevant to my Uni start as I would have liked. I completed the Uni Skills course at ECU a couple of years ago and got more out of it. Easy unit if you want an easy ride.
