Reviews

I thought this unit was great, and I really liked the way it was structured as it helped me put all the random bits and pieces of myths into context. I think if you're just expecting to learn about all the different 'stories' then you may be a bit disappointed, but if you actually want to understand where these myths come from, then it's really interesting.

If you like myths at all, please don't take this unit. It turns interesting and complex myths into a boring repetition of dates, ages and definitions, and completely took the fun out of myths. For me, the tutorials were a waste of time as you can see the content on lms and figure it out yourself. The lectures were 20% hit and 80% miss, some of it was interesting but the rest was so boring I couldn't help but zone out. On a plus side, the lecturer and those who ran the tutorial were friendly and helpful, but the digital project was so subjectively marked - it wasn't about creativity at all like they claimed, they might as well have just made it an essay.

I took this unit as an elective as it sounded fun. However I soon realised that they somehow managed to take all the interesting elements in myths and make them boring. Not only are the lectures not engaging, but the digital project is challenging, an essay would've been so much easier. They focus too much on the art and dates, and not enough on the myths. I would defintiely not recommend this unit unless you have to to fill your requirements.

unit is more about definitions and forms of myth than actual myths themselves... My tutor was very mean and hostile, he'd scorn students for not participating, and if they tried but made a mistake he'd make them feel terrible about it. Also he spent half of the 45 minute tutorial talking crap about people who don't come and about the importance of the tutorials every time... overall i wouldn't recommend this as a broadening unit as the material is very dry and the tutorials aren't exactly enjoyable

From someone who enjoys mythology this unit completely ruined any previous interest. Lectures focused a lot on the physical art of mythology and less on the stories themselves.

Really fun unit! The lectures were engaging and interesting, but the tutorials could be improved. Pretty simple assessments, but the digital project can be challenging. A good subject to take if you want something different.

The tutors were good but the tutorials felt rushed, and a lot of the tutorial content from the readings is actually quite difficult to understand. Would not recommend as a broadening unit.

Slides and transcripts are available for all lecturers. While the classes are engaging there is a fair amount of reading that is not easy to digest for the most part. Would recommend but only just...

Very fun and interesting unit! Great as a broadening :)

Super fun unit, would suggest this as a broadening unit to anyone. As a sport science student, this unit was refreshing, as well as interesting. Pretty useful knowledge really - people talk about Greeks and Romans surprising often, as well as myths.
