This is a pretty great unit. It has the exact same structure as BIOC2001, which I was always a fan of. There are 5 lab sessions in total, each with a pre-lab quiz, in-lab questions, post-lab questions, and post-lab quiz. They aren't too challenging provided that you pay attention to the pre-lab videos and the protocol. The labs can get confusing at times, but I feel that I've learnt valuable laboratory techniques and improved my ability to perform lab calculations and data interpretation. I like the online lab notebook we used, and the fact that it's assessed is very motivating. The lecture component is also very well organized and the teaching is generally quite good. No real complaints. There's quite a bit to remember, but it's all very interesting and highly relevant to future studies. The final exam was worth 40% and I found it quite reasonable. The unit coordinator is very proactive and it's clear that she is trying to further improve the unit. Unit breakdown: 5x laboratory sessions (incl. pre-lab quiz, in-lab questions, post-lab questions, post-lab quizzes - 35%), 1x presentation (5%), 5x lecture quizzes (15%), 10x workshop sessions (5%), final online exam (40%). At the end of the day it's a good unit, just don't let it snowball because your pre-exam marks constitute the majority of your grade and it's easy to tank a lot of the quizzes.

Overall, a very interesting unit. The lectures are split into five themes with each theme containing about 4 or 5 lectures. You are assessed on each theme throughout the semester through online quizzes. There are five laboratories throughout the semester, each one comprised of a pre-lab, lab and post-lab. The content for the themes and the laboratories is not too difficult to comprehend. You definitely need to allocate effort into memorising it. As for the final exam, it is worth 40% of your total mark and isn't too bad. The practise exam and quizzes are very good indicators on what to expect. If you do well in those you'll be fine for the exam. If you enjoyed SCIE1106 or BIOC2001 than this unit will be no different in my opinion.

way more interesting than bioc2001 but quite a bit harder. The labs were harder to understand but very fun. the exam was harder than bioc2001 but overall it was more relevant to body physiology.
