Reviews

The worst subject I have had at UTS by far, the whole subject is being carried by one tutor (davey). The Python version of the second project was released with several errors and components missing, and then the subject coordinator(?) went on leave. Communication between staff seems muddled at best. If you enjoy programming and do it for fun, you'll probably be fine, but for those of us who have little experience before prog 1 and prog 2 at UTS, this subject can be difficult to pass. Another issue is that almost every weekly lab assignment requires you to submit the previous one before you can submit the next. If you fall behind for one week, kiss all those lab marks goodbye because you will struggle to catch up if you aren't super experienced at programming and you're doing a full course load. One of the 2 projects also required you complete a weekly assignment beforehand, so you had people struggling to complete a lab worth 2 marks instead of getting started on an assignment worth 35. And what's worst is that it isn't just lazy students being bitter about not doing well, I've talked to HD students who share these sentiments. Hopefully enough people complain that things actually get changed for future semesters.

This subject is best approached not as a subject that teaches you how to program, but rather how to conform to potential standards in the workplace. Even if you don't agree with them, it's better to follow the rules than to lose marks for being creative.
