Reviews

Much more interesting than SCLG1002. Good opportunity to use 1001 knowledge to look at society through different eyes/lens. Krieken's book is painful though.

Terrible terrible subject. I'm doing well at it and it's pretty much the same thing as SCLG1001. But holy jesus, the textbook is so dry, long, and boring. Each week you have to do a weekly quiz and search the textbook for the most insignificant but incredibly specific facts, forcing you to search every bit of this textbook that has piles upon piles of useless, dry content. I can't believe how frustrated it made me feel to do this every week, it just wasn't worth doing it. I like sociology, but couldn't they get the textbook, burn it, and replace it with something tolerable?

Great! The only downside, gets a bit monotonous after a while. Other than that, having a great tutor and it being better than 1001, great subject!

much better than 1001. although content was not as interesting. exam is much better

It's relatively easy, but interesting. There's so many social problems that you can focus on, such as gender, ethnicity.

Mildly better thank SCLG1001. If you're a bit doe-eyed and fresh out of high school, you will likely enjoy both intro to sociology units as it is almost like an 'intro to the real world'. In this course you will get to cover topics such as the power of the media (this was actually very engaging and the book about Murdoch was excellent), deviancy (including everyone's favourite topic - illicit drugs), and the effects of education and the ideological drive behind certain curriculum (this is actually a lot more interesting than it sounds). All in all, intro to sociology one and two were by far the easiest units I took - if you're looking for easy marks, this is it.
