Reviews
Content is very well taught with plenty of practice questions to try your hand at, and support for the unit is superb both in person and on EdDiscussion. I found the content a little dry, but that is a matter of personal opinion! The designated 2hrs of lecture time + 1hr consultation was definitely not enough to get through some of the later modules of the course, and I really detested that the lectures were not presented in person. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Thanks to the nature of the assessments, the course is relatively easy to pass prior to the final exam. The quizzes are not too difficult and worth 30%, there is a guaranteed 5% as long as you complete your research participation, and the assignment (25%) is straightforward thanks to the manner in which the professors have broken it down into simple sections. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Final remarks: PSYC2012 is nothing to be afraid of.

The actual content is good and the lectures and tutors are excellent. However, I have never seen a unit THIS badly managed. Itβs absolutely ridiculous. There are 6 quiz assessments (each worth 5%) where you need to work out your answer on a piece of paper, take a photo, and submit it to canvas. They allow an extremely small amount of time to submit the answer, and many people have technical problems and are then forced to get special consideration. If your special consideration is approved, the next quiz will be worth double (10%) so that all the hard work from the previous quiz is worth nothing. Additionally, the quizzes are due at 2pm on a Monday afternoon which means many people have to take a day off work or cannot go into uni that day. This whole unit is so poorly managed and unfair, and itβs absolutely so demoralising when all your work counts for nothing.

A tough subject to keep on top of, but very doable with lots of practice and the right support. Dr Pinkus was a fabulous lecturer, so definitely make time to watch her content.

Fantastic lecturers who are on top of their stuff. Make sure you revise and go to the consultations if you're stuck. Go over lecturer examples, do the practice questions and go to your tutorials. Shoutout to Jess for being a great tutor!

Legit my favourite unit I've ever done. Bless Stesen and his smashed avocado metaphors.

Overall, this subject was actually quite enjoyable considering it was a stats subject. I think the psych department tries to make it fun as they can and they give you so many resources for studying. You have tutorial exercises, do the homework and they give you even more practice Qs so thereβs no excuse to fail really. Itβs compulsory for a psych major but it really isnβt too bad!!!

A challenging course if you do not keep up to date and are prepared for constant tutorial quizzes. Do go to lectures and spend most of your study time practicing questions, it is the most useful use of it. The teachers are good but at times their explanations aren't great.

Content is easy, assessments are more difficult. The final exam can be more tricky, as it is more conceptual based and more of the simple and more overlooked subject matter is often in there.

It's not so hard once you grasp the Math concept
Anonymous, Semester 1, 2015
The assessments are a lot harder than the course content. Make sure you know everything from the last lecture/tute before progressing to the next one. Also, the Maths Learning Centre only has 1 or 2 tutors that can help with this unit. So learn who they are and when they are in the centre so that you can get their help. You'll need it!
