Nathan is amazing!!!

This subject is the perfect amount of challenging for those who strived to perform well in High School Mathematics. It serves as the first introduction towards undergraduate subjects where students are required to be abstract but can still perform calculations. Would highly recommend you to take this subject if you are a mathematics major.

If you enjoyed math in hs, I suggest you take this adv unit in yr1 sem1! Nathan Brownlowe is such a great lecturer that genuinely wants you to do well. The cohort that you are in is also very active and passionate about math, which makes this unit a lot easier! Although I may not get a very high mark in this unit, I really enjoyed it and it makes me want to take more math units in the future. Go to the zoom consultations before the exam. I found it really helpful in terms of picking up bits and pieces that I missed.

Nathan Brownlowe & Becky Armstrong are basically the best! They are sincere in wanting their students to do their best, and understand the confusion 1st years feel. Please take this unit in your first semester if you can.

This course is very useful and gives the foundations of higher level algebra. You are thrown in the deep end slightly but this is not unexpected as it is an advanced mathematics course. It is particularly useful for those looking to do pure mathematics and/or physics.

The subject contains interesting content, and very different from high school maths. It is probably one of the most challenging first year units, but on the whole rewarding. Staying up to date on quizzes and practice will definitely be helpful to you.

Course was interesting and challenging - very different to high school maths. The assignments and online quizzes throughout the semester were difficult but achievable. The final exam for previous years was very difficult but this year's one was quite doable.

Very fun subject if you've watched 3blue1brown's playlist on linear algebra!

This unit is completely unlike high school math, it requires a level of precision and carefulness in the way you do mathematics. Learning how to formally prove a statement and explain concepts in precise language. Our quizzes were relatively tricky but our final was BRUTAL. Best of luck for all taking this unit in the future, its a hard one.
