ECON1005 is a solid foundation for studying economic policy, and is distinguished by its emphasis on Australian economic history. (It certainly makes you think that historical knowledge is at least as important as mathematical knowledge as a policy practitioner in the field.) It is good if you want an orthodox economic perspective on the issues Australia faces currently (and the solutions to them), and is definitely worthwhile if you're an economics noob like me who wants to be more learned in this area.
