Monash Science Tutor Dan

G'day, I’m Dan!
I’m a provisionally registered psychologist currently completing a Master of Clinical Neuropsychology. Before this, like many of you, I studied at Monash University — constantly wondering about my options after Honours. I eventually graduated with First Class Honours (H1), a result I firmly believe is achievable for anyone with the right support in place.
The path to getting into my preferred postgraduate course took time and persistence. Along the way, I worked as a University Teaching Associate and continue to work as a research assistant in paediatric neuropsychology — where I spend plenty of hours programming and running statistical analyses! While I’m definitely a stats nerd at heart, I bring warmth, patience, and genuine curiosity to my tutoring. I love working with students from all backgrounds, particularly those from underrepresented and diverse populations.
I tutor a wide range of psychology units from first year through to Honours and prioritise students who have greater learning needs or are returning to study after a break. I aim to provide not just academic support, but mentorship tailored to your unique goals and journey.
How I Support You:
I offer flexible, tailored support to meet your individual needs as a psychology student. This includes reviewing content from lectures, readings, workshops, and statistical programming; helping you consolidate new learning; and identifying areas for growth. I also provide timely verbal or written feedback via Zoom or email, helping you review past assignments, reflect on your performance, and develop practical plans for improvement. Sessions can also focus on practicing general counselling skills required in certain psychology units, and building strong academic communication skills — including using research articles, academic language, and proper formatting to express your ideas clearly and concisely.
Key Support Areas:
*Lecture & Reading Review: Support for consolidating complex lecture material and readings.
*Assignment Support: Guidance for structuring, planning, and reviewing assignments, plus detailed feedback on writing quality.
*Reflective Practice: Assistance with developing self-reflection skills, particularly useful in placement and professional development contexts.
*Counselling Skill Practice: Opportunities to practice and refine core counselling skills (e.g., active listening, empathy, and rapport-building) in real-world scenarios.
*Academic Communication: Help with writing skills, using research articles, and developing your academic voice.
Before our first session, I gather information about your academic journey, goals, and any specific areas of support you are seeking. This allows us to spend less time on setup and more time actively working towards your goals. Sessions are designed to be flexible: you might want to review tricky content, practice reflective skills, plan strategies after receiving feedback, or simply pause to debrief and restructure your approach.
To make the most of our time, I encourage you to send through any relevant materials or areas of focus beforehand. Sessions are always dynamic and student-driven, meaning we adapt based on your evolving needs. Throughout our work together, I will ask questions to strengthen your understanding, decision-making, and reflective skills — for example, by asking "why" to deepen your reasoning.
