UQ Science Tutor Hayley

Hi! My name is Hayley & I'm a first year Doctor of Medicine (MD) student at the University of Melbourne. Before medicine, I studied a Bachelor of Advanced Science at The University of Queensland, where I graduated with First Class Honours. My experience: I've tutored throughout my entire university experience! I've tutored both high school and university level students- recently, I tutored advanced 3rd year biomedical science subjects to UQ students. Why tutoring: I thoroughly enjoy tutoring because I find a lot of fulfilment through it! During my undergraduate degree, I also had tutors who made my learning journey so much more easier and enjoyable- I like passing on this experience and knowledge to students who are now in the position I was in! Sometimes being able to talk out concepts, with someone who knows exactly what is high yield and important, is crucial in really reaching your full academic potential. My teaching style: I adjust my teaching style to best suit the learning style of my students! More importantly, I like to keep tutoring fun- you engage the most with content when it's actually interesting. My areas of expertise: Most biomedical science topics, but especially: - Immunology & Microbiology - Physiology - Endocrinology - Research/Scientific Writing & Communication Skills - GAMSAT (99th percentile S2 score) - MMI preparation (I received 3 medical school offers on my first attempt: USYD, Flinders University and UniMelb).
