UWA Health Tutor Ellen
I am a qualified social worker (MSW) with a psychology (BPsycSc) and cognitive behaviour therapy (GradDip) background. I have seven years of discipline related experience working across not-for-profits, government services and private corporations. During this time, I held various psychosocial roles, from clinical mental health, counselling and case management to aged care consultancy, community development, disability rehabilitation, project management and student supervision. Most recently, occupying qualitative research assistant roles and working in social work academia. Prior to my career in allied health I worked in government and private administration for eight years.
I am interested in researching contradictions within social justice efforts, particularly ideological coercion and framing in education, media and politics. My independent research explores student experiences of anti-oppressive ideology and ethical teaching in social work education across Australian universities. This work is being carried out in a collaboration between the social work and philosophy departments at UWA.
I teach UWA’s Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) – Ethics and Professionalism, Human Rights and Social Justice, and Introduction to Critical Thinking in Social Work.
