Reviews

This course teaches you skills you need to know for honours. It has the potential to be very interesting and expose students to real world uses of scales in different areas of practice. However, the blackboard site is very poorly set up. It feels lazy and uncaring. The assessment has never changed it is still exaxctly the same asssessment topic as last year. (My friend at Griffith was also given the exact same assignment as me haha). I recommend finding a good textbook from the library on psych statistics and looking through each topic covered for the exam/report I personally think it will give you a more thorough understanding than the lectures (just check that you didn’t miss any topics by doing a speedy run through the lecture after). The lectures are great for the step by step SPSS screen dumps for the assignment. The assessment is much easier to do if you gather a group together for the data gathering/generation portion of the assessment. Also start your research early and choose the two scale models you are going to use ASAP you can ask if fellow tut students could please fill out your forms after class. The earlier in the semester you ask this the more likely you are to get more people willing to help you out as their not as busy as later in the semester :)

The only good thing about this subject was that I learned how to create a scale - I needed that skill for honours.

I completed this subject last year (2015) and judging by the other comment here, nothing much has changed.

For me, this unit was not that great. The content was fine but the assessment was the worst. Important information was left off the task sheet and the general layout of the assignment was terrible.
