The nature of the course varied quite a bit between the more technical and the more socio-oriented. Some assignments required a deep dive into individual languages with much information to sift through, but the lectures and exercises leading up to this were a good step-by-step preparation. Nevertheless, a firm base of knowledge from previous, introductory classes is required. Some lectures weren't very engaging. I enjoyed the freedom of topic choice for the final assessment. It was interesting to see languages from the area from a different perspective and to learn about the variety of languages.

This is a very engaging course if you are interested in these languages. It is also a good intermediary course for typology.
