Reviews

Great elective to do without any philosophy pre-knowledge. No lectures just weekly reading accompanied by weekly quizzes (unlimited attempts and no time limit) but there are participation marks. This can be gained by making 'useful' comments on perusal (interactive reading) or participating during group activities for tutorials. Next, the binchicken activities (40%) are sort of fun games were you have to complete a streak of x questions to gain all points. Binchicken was easy at first then the later questions became difficult and there was little guidance (sort of guesswork). Lastly, creating and contributing to puzzles. This was the most difficult because it required a kind of creativity not taught. Not the straight out of textbook puzzles but ones needing thought and logic. Overall, easy HD but not the most interesting.

Learning a strange sort of "math" things like p v ¬p. Just weekly reading from a text, participation either on where the readin is (perusal) or in class. Tests are "highest grade" (aka. keep trying till you get all right) weekly tests. Other assessment (30%) is creating 10 logic puzzles, and helping solve 20 in a forum (not like thinking logic puzzles (like the well known blue eyes one), problems like how many sentences can be made using only 2 p's and 3 q's . Other 30% are 3 reflections on learning logic in this way.

Although it's a philosophy unit, make no mistake - this is a subject for those who like maths and computer science, not for those who prefer essays and philosophical discussion. Having no exam was a lifesaver though.

Poorly organised overall, but my tutor was enthusiastic and helpful.
