Reviews

Driest content ever. Same course for years. Shouldn’t even be a unit.

My psychiatrist took my off my sleeping meds because listening to this unit's content before bed put me straight to sleep. Very dry content, no practical elements,. The unit hasn't changed for years. Very boring and the assignments are marked so harshly.

One of the worst units I ever did. Lakmal was quite strict and he made the unit more complicated than it needed to be and he marked assignments way too harshly IMO. A lot of students fail the unit each semester. I wish it wasn't compulsory, otherwise I would never recommend this unit at all.

Dry and content heavy - not too difficult to achieve a solid grade if you keep up to date with content on a weekly basis and put in minimal effort.

I actually did the unit back in sem2 2013 and surprised to know that Lakmal is still teaching the unit. It was the worst unit of my entire undergrad. Lakmal usually spent half an hour of the lecture time dissing students and praising himself. The Srilankan tutor I had was really racist towards Asian students while buttering up white kids. I asked the tutor for help with understanding one of the class material and she asked me to take English classes while she made horrible grammar mistakes constantly for a PhD candidate. The tutor wasn't professional at all and gave me a really hard time the whole semester. Before anyone judges this might have been just a conflict between me and my tutor, everyone in the class felt the same and nobody in class liked her as well. She also read out the grades of our assignments out loud to everyone in class as well which I pretty much wasn't happy for violating our privacy.

I think some reviews are a bit harsh. Yes, the content seems a bit boring and dry, but pay attention to the underlying message. Lakmal is trying to promote change within the norms of management, in hope we become the engineers of that change. It's very simple, you'll get out what you put in.

very boring and tutors are the worst.

My tutor was the worst tutor I've had at Monash University. Finds joy in giving students unnecessarily hard grades. This unit is infinitely harder than it needs to be purely because it overcomplicated simple topics and has countless rules and criteria that offer no benefit and promote no development in students. If I could rate this unit 0 stars, I would.

Such a dry, boring and rather depressing unit. The overly repetitive and boring online lectures by Lakmal makes me want to scream every week. Beware if your tutor is Tse Leng Tham, she's HOPELESS and somehow seems to make such easy content very difficult to understand and you don't learn anything in her tutorials. Also beware if you attempt to ask her for help because she either doesn't know the content herself or just doesn't like to help students (probably a mix of both)

Lakmal is very passionate about management; tutorials are extremely organised and if you put the same effort he gives you, you'll be fine. Look through the tutorial lessons/guide if you don't have him as a lecturer as some tutors will skimp a bit.
