Subject topics include medical bacteriology, virology, parasitology and mycology, epidemiology and molecular pathogenesis. Students will learn about the general characteristics of pathogenic microorganisms commonly affecting the health of animals and humans (including feet and lower limbs) and the steps involved in disease transmission. Practical classes will address basic medical microbiology including normal flora of the skin and common etiologic agents of Tinea infections, the effectiveness of hand washing and the dissemination of a potential pathogen throughout a population.
