Excellent unit for extending your knowledge of lab techniques and investigations into genetics. The first half of the unit uses wet labs to isolate DNA and a specific gene within it. The second half of the unit is dedicated to examining this genes sequence and identifying information regarding it in the computer lab using programs that are interesting and also used in current research. Great lecture content and good use of guest speakers who currently work in the industry and were able to give us a glimpse into how this all ties together with 'real world' applications.

This unit incorporates both wet lab and dry lab activities really well, that is doing experiments in the labs for the first 5-6 weeks and then using the results you gained from those experiments to use the computer labs to further analyse and interpret what you discovered. This unit really builds on your techniques in the labs, but also goes further to show you the next step in getting complete results and the data you can discover. A really interesting aspect not many other units give you.
